Dr. Jerry Stein
Jerry Stein is Senior Fellow and Director of the newly created Project on Youth and Community Learning at the Youth Studies Program, School of Social Work, University of Minnesota. For the previous six years Dr. Stein was a Community Youth Development Educator, Area Program Leader and Assistant Professor with the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
Jerry Stein has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction/Adult Education at the University of Minnesota, 1992 (award for Outstanding Thesis on 'John Dewey and Adult Education'); an M.A. in Public Affairs at the Humphrey Institute, University of Minnesota, specializing in Education Policy, 1982; and a B.A. in Philosophy at the University of California, 1975.
Dr. Stein also teaches classes on Education and Community and Democratic Learning Communities in which he explores the underlying basis for community-based approaches to learning.
