Nasra Farah started her journey in Somalia. Now a student at the University of Minnesota, Nasra is following her dream to become a doctor. At a young age, Nasra Farah was forced to escape the violence in her native country of Somalia and move to a refugee camp in a nearby country.

As the oldest in her family, she was responsible for taking care of her seven brothers and sisters, fetching water, cooking meals and acting as a mother to her youngest siblings.

In 2004, Nasra moved to the United States with her family, including her infant son. Dreaming of attending medical school, but overwhelmed with the complications of caring for a growing family, Nasra's dream of becoming a doctor became sidetracked.

But with the help of a Learning Dreams Neighborhood Educator, Nasra first enrolled in a science class at a community college and is now enrolled at the University of Minnesota and on her way to medical school.

Equally important, she is modeling a passion for learning and education to her young son.
