Volunteer

Wishing to explore creative ways of learning, Jena Brune became a Volunteer Neighborhood Educator for the Ruzek family. Wanting to volunteer with families, but tired of traditional educational practices, Jena Brune decided to become a Volunteer Neighborhood Educator at Learning Dreams.

Emily Ruzek, a single mom of four, wanted to be a writer. Jena has worked with the Ruzeks for over a year, encouraging Emily to complete a rough draft of a children's book, supervising Sveta Ruzek in applying to an arts high school, and connecting Nathan Ruzek with local videographers so he could learn the trade.

The family is now thriving, simply from the close relationship and guidance of Jena. "She's inspiring and extremely thoughtful," said Learning Dreams Volunteer Coordinator Micaela Conlon. "Jena goes above and beyond the call of most Volunteer Neighborhood Educators."

Jena Brune now acts as the Learning Dreams Field Coordinator for Hennepin County.
